Do not store food
for a prolonged period of time.
|
 |
Refrigerator does not kill germs in the
food but only maintains the freshness. Do not place too
much confidence on refrigerators because germs will grow
slowly if stored long enough.
|
Store food items
that are easily frozen or high in water content on lower
shelves.
|
If these items are stored on upper shelves,
they tend to get frozen due to lower temperature.
|
Cool hot food items
before storage.
|
If hot items are stored, interior temperature
may rise thus spoiling other items nearby and increasing
the usage of electricity.
|
Store food items
in closed containers.
|
This will prevent dehydration so that
long term storage is possible and also reduce the odor
inside the refrigerator.
|
Do not store egg
containers in the freezer.
|
Eggs will be ruined if frozen.
|
Wash before storage.
|
Wash and dry vegetables and fruits before
storage. Wipe any packed items clean before storage. This
will prevent cross contamination among contents.
|
Do not store food,
which gets spoiled easily at low temperature, for an extended
period time.
|
Fruits such as bananas, pineapples, and
melons get easily spoiled at low temperature.
|
Do not store bottled
items in the freezer.
|
When the contents inside freezer, bottles
tend to break.
|
In order to prevent
cross contamination, store raw food in the lower part
and cooked food in the upper part of the refrigerator.
Foods that require long-term storage
should be stored near the cooling fan, then meats and
eggs should follow.
Smelly food (such as fish) should be stored away
from odor absorbing food (butter, milk, etc).
Food items in glassware or ironware should be stored
at the bottom of the refrigerator.
When storing perishable goods, the temperature
should be kept below 5¢ªC.
Do not open the refrigerator door frequently. It
takes approximately 15 minutes to recover to 3~6¢ªC after
the door is kept open for 10 seconds.
In order for an efficient circulation of cool air,
ample space should be maintained between the wall and
the food items and excessive storage should be avoided.
Unsanitary wrapping materials should be avoided
for they become a hotbed for microorganisms.
Moist items such as vegetable, fish, and meat can
cause frost. Therefore, these should be stored using plastic
wrapper.
Store frozen food items (such as ice cream, frozen
dumplings, frozen pizza, etc) in the freezer. Try to avoid
freezing food in the freezer at home for storage. In particular,
it takes much longer to freeze cooked food, hence the
food may get spoiled during the process. Therefore, storage
of cooked food in the freezer should be avoided if possible.
Avoid storing moist, warm or hot items in the freezer
for they will cause frost.
It is a good idea to clean the refrigerating compartment
once a week and the freezer once a month.
It is convenient to date the items upon storing
in the freezer. |
